Mindwise: how we understand what others Think, Believe, Feel and Want
I am reading ¨Mindwise: how we understand what others Think, Believe, Feel and Want¨ by Nicholas Eply. I am halfway and fascinated.
The book explores the universal human experience of working together, underpinned by our shared ability to comprehend the thoughts, beliefs, emotions, and desires of others. Yet, this understanding is not without its challenges. We all grapple with biases, misperceptions, and the tendency to view the world through our own unique lens.
I am most fascinated by The Transparency Illusion, where people often assume their thoughts and intentions are obvious to others (e.g., believing others can detect their anxiety or deception). Sounds very familiar to me (perhaps even when writing this!).
To become better mindreaders, we must become better listeners, take different perspectives, and be less judgmental. Great advice for me and my coaching clients.
PS: the photo also features Apollo. He is great at companionship but not much of a reader.
